What do we recommend when buying an e-bike?

Buy a brand you know you can have serviced. Some e-bike brands don’t have serviceable parts or don’t have dealers near you who can get those parts. When something goes wrong with your e-bike, you want to make sure it isn’t one-and-done. Keep in mind that some bike mechanics won’t service any e-bike components, some will service just the regular bicycle parts of a bike, and some will only service those brands which they are trained in. Make sure you check with your local bike shop before buying a bike. You don’t want to be left out high and dry.
Buy UL or ETK tested e-bike systems. The entire system on an electric bike is intricate and has explosive lithium batteries. Make sure that your battery, motor, and entire system have been tested and are certified by UL or ETL. You don’t want a garage or house fire.
If you live in a cold climate, get a removable battery. Keeping your battery at comfortable temperatures is key to extending its life. It’s an expensive part of the system, after all! Way up north, it gets cold outside, and your battery should be kept inside to extend its life. A removable battery makes this easier than bringing the whole bike inside.
